In the Church of Our Lady in Ixelles, there is a memorial plaque at the back with the names of the martyrs of the fatherland.
It mainly concerns resistance fighters. The most famous listed are Edith Cavell, English nurse, and Franz Merjay, physician, who were executed for espionage.
At the top it says: "To our glorious dead"
