War Memorial Saint-Gilles Church of the Holy Trinity

The monument to the dead of 1914-18 of the parish of the Holy Trinity is a rather simple monument behind the church.
It consists of a bronze statue of a full-length soldier, in uniform and with his equipment, necessary to survive at the front.
Under the soldier's feet is the Latin inscription: CREDO, the first word of the Catholic Creed. This creed totally justifies the soldier's sacrifice.

The monument was erected in 1921 by the parish, which commemorates its children.
At the top of the commemorative plate are 2 coats of arms, on the right the lion, emblem of Belgium, on the left the Holy Trinity is visualized.
Below are the names of the victims in alphabetical order.
The bronze pedestal bears the name Verbeyst, Brussels bronze foundry.
The sculptor was the goldsmith Henri Holemans. In 1914, at the age of 20, he was a soldier himself and during the long waiting in the trenches the soldiers often made artful objects from shell cases. There he learned to work and engrave copper.
