Observation Bunker VM29 ter

This is bunker VM 29 ter from the sector Vesdre-Manaihant and belongs to the 1st line of La Position Fortifiée de Liège. It is an observation bunker for fort Tancrémont near Pepinster.

The bunker was equipped with a Guet type turret. This was either removed by the Germans during the war and melted down or to be reused in the Atlantic Wall.

Or the turret was sold as scrap metal by the Belgians after the war when the bunkers had lost their strategic value for the defense of Belgium. All the metal on the bunkers was then sold as were the steel hatches and doors.

On top of the bunker, the steel brackets that gave access to the dome in the manhole are still visible.

At the front, a grenade gully (photo 2) can be seen for close combat defense. On the inside of the bunker was a hatch that gave access to the grenade gully. This ran through the concrete in a kind of periscope shape so that no shots could be fired inward from outside. Through the grenade gully, soldiers could drop grenades outside if the enemy approached close to the bunker.

The entrance to the bunker has been bricked up.
