Defense Bunker VM7

This is bunker VM 7 from the sector Vesdre-Manaihant and belongs to the 1st line of La Position Fortifiée de Liège.

This bunker is the 8th bunker in this sector because bunker VM 1 has a secondary bunker VM 1 ter. The bunker is still accessible. The gun opening is bricked up.

Inside you can still see the hooks where the soldiers could hang their equipment. Also still present are the shelf supports and part of the metal fixture where the machine gun was mounted.

However, after the war, when the bunkers lost their strategic value for the defense of Belgium, all the metal (doors, hatches, etc.) was sold as scrap metal. The plots of land on which the bunkers stand were also sold so that it now lies in a meadow where horses graze.

On the two of the four corners the so-called “DN” posts are still present. DN stands for Defense National, where it was the indication that it was a military plot. The plot was therefore cordoned off with barbed wire, which is still present. Photo 5 shows DN post 3.
