There are 1900 bridges in Amsterdam. Some bridges have been named as an appreciation and memory of a resistance fighter.
In January 2018, the Western Hortus Bridge was given its new name: Johan van Hulst Bridge, named after Johan van Hulst, who, in his capacity as director of the Reformed teacher training college, and others rescued about six hundred Jewish babies and young children from the Hollandsche Schouwburg.
In 1972 he received the Yad Vashem award for this.
