Monument African Soldier in French War Service Fréjus

This monument by sculptor Yvon Guidez was inaugurated in 1994 to commemorate the African soldiers who fought on the French side, during more than a age. A garrison of these troops was located in Fréjus. The monument consists of a stone base topped by five bronze figures: four black soldiers and a white officer holding the French flag. The epitaph is by the Senegalese politician and writer Léopold Sedar Senghor (1906-2001), former president of the Republic of Senegal.
