This American oak [Quercus rubra], was planted in the Patersbos on May 5, 1945 on the occasion of the liberation of the Netherlands by the Assumptionist Fathers. Until 1969 (after the departure of the Ursuline sisters in 1939) they lived in the monastery that has since disappeared, which stood on the site where t Hofhuys is now located.
Initially there was a German gun on the knoll in front of the tree. Part of this gun was later forged into a plow by the fathers.
