Crash Site B26 Marauder Hearse For Six 41-31968, 450th Bomb Group, 9th Air Force

Memorial to the crew of the B26 Marauder bomber "Hearse For Six" that crashed on April 13, 1944 in l Étang-Bertrand. The B26 Marauder took part in a mission to Le Havre, but had a technical problem on its way back that separated it from the squadron; Lost in a cloud formation, the plane was flying over the Cotentin when it was shot down by a German anti-aircraft battery.

The crew managed to evacuate by parachute and were captured by the Germans, except for the radio operator, Staff Sergeant Waldo Shows, who managed to escape and was hidden until the landing of the American troops. The other soldiers were transferred to various prison camps in Germany.
