Barracks Major Sabbe Mons

During the Dutch period in Belgium, Mons got a modern barracks (the Guillaume barracks, built in 1824-1827). Named "Major Sabbe" after the First World War, this base of the Infantry regiments was in active use until the Second World War.

Monument in memory of Major Jules SABBE
Major SABBE was killed in action during the Final Offensive of the First World War at Landegem on 22 October 1918.
