Bygland Churchyard contains seven Commonwealth war graves from World War II, of the crew of a British B-17C bomber which was shot down on 8 September 1941. It was the first B-17 shot down in the Second World War.
The bomber of 90 sq. R.A.F. WP-D/AN 525 D-DOG was on a flight from Kinloss in Scotland to Oslo, where the Von Scheer was anchoraged.
Next to the graves, a part of the propellor was erected as a memorial.
