Former German Cemetry "Ehrenfrdh R.I.R. 240"

This regiment was transferred in 1915 to this sector during Second of Ypres and they stayed approx. 1 year in this position. They conquered this area after the gas attack on the French troops and stayed approx. 1 year in the line. They built next to this location and the Commonwealth Cement House cemetery a medical post.

The 240 R.I.R. was part of the 52nd Reserve Division and they used this area to bury their dead. During the fighting in April and May 1915 they lost 25 Officers and 1268 soldiers.

Nobody has any trace of what happened with the soldiers that were buried here, as there was heavy fighting in this area during the Third battle of Ypres.
