Stumbling Stones Hofstraat

These brass plaques (Stolpersteine or stumbling stones), placed on 2-11-2022, commemorate:
* Pastor JAN IJSBRANDS GALAMA (born 1885, arrested 4-8-1941, deported 28-11-1941, Dachau, murdered 4-5-1942, Schloss Hartheim)
* Chaplain MARINUS ADRIANUS VAN ROOIJEN (born 1897, arrested 5-8-1941, deported 23-10-1941, Sachsenhausen, killed 16-6-1942, Dachau)
* Chaplain REGNERUS HENRICUS FRANCISCUS HEGGE (born 1912, arrested 5-8-1941, deported 5-9-1944, Sachsenhausen, Bergen-Belsen, liberated)

These Stolpersteine lie here for resistance fighters, persecuted, deported and/or murdered in World War II.

"Stolpersteine” is an art project for Europe by Gunter Demnig to commemorate victims of National Socialism (Nazism). Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) are small, 10x10cm brass plaques placed in the sidewalk in front of the last voluntary residence of (usually Jewish) victims of the Nazis. Each plaque is provided with the victim’s, date of birth, and fate. By doing this, Gunter Demnig gives an individual memorial to each victim. One stone, one name, one person. He cites the Talmud: “A human being is forgotten only when his or her name is forgotten.”
