Soviet War Cemetery Kuršėnai

A Soviet WW II cemetery in Kuršėnai.
According to official Soviet records, there are 563 Soviet casualties, from 1944, buried here. Local eyewitnesses mention that also Soviet soldiers killed in 1941 are buried here, however their number is unknown. In 1997 the remains of three Soviet soldiers were found and interred here.

The cemetery is made up of a central pilar with panels scattered around the area with names of the casualties. Recently the plaque and a Soviet emblem have been removed from the central pilar. These can be seen on older pictures. Other plaques seem to have been removed as well.
