Jewish Cemetery Kommern

The Jewish cemetery in Kommern was laid out long before 1838. The oldest legible tombstone dates from 1846, the youngest from 1935.
According to the Jewish rite, the tombstones are mainly oriented to the east, towards Jerusalem. Today 61 tombstones (mazewot) have been preserved.

At times more than 100 Jewish fellow citizens lived in Kommern. There was both a synagogue and a Jewish school in town.

The National Socialists refused to erect a memorial stone for Eduard Levano, who died in 1937. A tombstone for Eduard Levano was created on the initiative of students from Kommern and erected on June 14, 2006 on his tomb.
