From 1915, the Château de Lovie was always headquarters of some British or French army unit.
Between June and November 1917, it was the headquarters of the British Fifth Army. From here, General Gough gave the controversial orders for the massive attacks of the Third Battle of Ypres.
During this period, the domain received many notable prominent figures of the time such as then British minister Winston Churchill, King of England George V, Belgian King Albert I and British Crown Prince Edward, Prince of Wales.
