Before the First World War there was in this area a military training field of the Austro-Hungarian army. From 1911 there were some hangars built and 4 Etrich Taube planes of the 5th Corps where stationed here.
After the Trainon treaty Hungary was not allowed anymore to build planes until 1927 and started here at the airport with building gliders.
From 1936 onwards Ernő Rubik started at the airport a factory for both gliders as well as single engine planes and also pilots were trained here for the Hungarian air force.
After the second World War started the production also shifted to build military planes and the airport was also in use by smaller light reconnaissance planes.
After the second World War the Russian air force based some helicopters here.
