Memorial William A. Moffett

This memorial plaque commemorates Rear Admiral William A. Moffett who was born here. He fought in the Spanish-American War. During the Battle of Veracruz, where he captained the USS Chester on a daring night landing, he earned the Medal of Honor.

During the First World War he set up the naval aviation service and after the war he was the one who set up new tactics and aircraft carriers for the naval aviation service.
