Ammunition Bearing Matador Gortel

In 1943/1944, the Germans installed ammunition bearings in the Crown Domain, opposite the Hunting Lodge.
The ammunition bearings were known as 'The Matador'. This name would also have been on reference signs at the Boshuis and on the Paalweg at the Elspeterweg.
In a large shed near the Boshuis, ammunition was cleaned daily by girls from the knife factory (or tricot factory) in Apeldoorn. The security personnel consisted of members of the Feldgendarmerie, the German military police. They were also called 'Kettenhunde' after the metal shields that were worn on chains on the chest.
They stayed in the Log Cabin, built in 1943, opposite the Jachthuis on Boshuisweg.
