In the outer wall of the Sint-Niklaaskerk in Kapelle-op-den-Bos, side of the Mechelseweg, is the weathered memorial stone with the five names of Kapellenaren killed during the Boeren Krijg.
The stone was paid for through a money collection during the Sunday mass of November 27, 1898. The stonecutter was Emile Praille.
On Sunday, December 4, 1898, on the occasion of the commemoration of 100 years of Boer War, a worship service was held in the presence of Canon Muyldermans, after which this memorial stone was solemnly unveiled.
The plaque reads:
1798 1898
Salute to our brave Boer warriors who fought and died
for God and country
among which:
Ph.VAN DOORSLAER - A.TROCH
G.OLBRECHTS - J.VAN ROY
P.J.GOOSSENS
We fought for our people and for everything
sacred to us.
