Camp Papago

Camp Papago was transformed into a POW camp for Kriegsmarine personnel in September 1943. In 1944, 25 German prisoners of war managed to escape through a tunnel. This event has gone down in the history books as one of the largest POW escapes in US history. The camp was closed in April 1946.

The foundations of one of the watchtowers can still be seen.
