Long Beach Airport

Long Beach Airport (then under de name Daugherty Field) was one of the airports armed with combat-ready Air Force units shortly after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. When the long-awaited attack on LA did not come, the airfield was taken over and expanded by the Air Transport Command. The U.S. Navy also used the facilities. Douglas Aircraft Co also had a large factory here where B-17, B-26, A-26 and C-47 aircraft were built.
