Camp Haan

Camp Haan was opened in January 1941 as a training camp for artillery and anti-aircraft units. By November 1941, most of the cadets had been trained and deployed for coastal defense. In March 1942 the camp was reorganized into an Army Service Depot and at the end of 1942, in addition to a field hospital, a POW camp for 1200 Italians was added to the complex. The Italians were relieved in April by German prisoners of war. Today the remains of the camp are still visible.
