SBD International Airport

SBD International Airport (then known as Municipal Airport, San Bernardino) became a pilot training base in the summer of 1941. Days after the attack on Pearl Harbor, San Bernardino was one of the combat-ready air bases in the US. It was renamed San Bernardino Army Air Field in July 1942. The Air Transport Command used the base during World War II and in 1943 maintenance operations for gas turbine engines were added.
