Santa Monica Airport

Santa Monica Airport (then Clover Field) was used by Douglas Aircraft Co for aircraft testing during World War II. The nearby Douglas main plant manufactured transport planes (C-47), bombers and fighter aircraft. Clover Field was selected in the summer of 1943 as a Redistribution Center for returning Air Force personnel from overseas territories.
