Edwards Air Force Base

Edwards AFB has a long history in aviation. It began in 1933 as the Army Air Corps' Muroc Lake Bombing and Gunnery Range, used by airmen stationed at March Field. In 1937 training of the Army Air Corps took place here. During the Second World War, the training ground was used by the 2nd AF and 4th AF. from November 1942 until the end of the war, this complex was called Muroc Army Air Field. In 1942 part of the base was used as a test site for secret weapons. Several experimental aircraft have been tested here, including the XP-59 and XP-80.
