Camp Stoneman

Camp Stoneman was built in March 1942 by the Transportation Corps. Tens of thousands of GIs stayed in this base during the war awaiting their deployment to overseas territories. In January 1946 German prisoners of war stayed here. The base continued to be used during the Korean War.

A memorial now stands along Harbor St, consisting of a memorial stone and an M48 Patton tank.
