Mather Airport / Mather Field

Mather Airport was built as a training base for pilots during World War I. The airfield was expanded in 1941 and served as a training base for crew members of single-engine aircraft, and later B-25 bombers. In 1944-1945, Mather was a port of embarkation to the Pacific. The airfield was renamed Maher Air Force Base after the war and remained operational until the 1990s.
