Camp Kearny

Camp Kearny was established as an army training base during World War I. Between the world wars it was a blimp base and a firing/bombing range. At the start of World War II, Kearny was transferred to the Navy. The northern section was renamed Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and the southern section Naval Auxiliary Air Station Camp Kearney. The Navy's Air Ferry Command also used the base.

After the war, Kearney merged with Camp Elliott and subsequently renamed U.S. Naval Air Station Miramar.
