Monument in the Cobbenhagen building of Tilburg University.
In 1927, Martinus Joseph Hubertus Cobbenhagen (1893 - 1954) was one of the founders of the Roman Catholic Handelshoogeschool, the forerunner of Tilburg University. For Professor Cobbenhagen, education was not just about transferring knowledge. He wanted to shape students into socially responsible citizens.
During the Second World War, Cobbenhagen meant a lot to students. He prepared lecture notes and food parcels, wrote letters of encouragement and pleaded for them with the German authorities. This memorial is for twenty-two students who died.
