During the Second World War, a large POW camp for 2000 German prisoners of war stood here.
The camp was in use from March 13, 1944 until February 28, 1946 and the majority of the POW’s where captured in North Africa. POW’s were working the fields in this area.
Two stone columns are the only surviving remains of the camp; however they are no longer at the original place, but have moved approx. 500 meters to the west.
There are several plaques at the site reminds the passerby of the history of this place and provide additional information
