Lichtenhorst War Memorial

Inaugurated in 1958 the memorial commemorates the 49 individuals from the village of Lichtenhorst who died in World War Two. The memorial consists of 3 vertical erratic boulders on an earth mound. The central boulder contains the main inscription: ‘To honour the dead. To teach the living. 1939-1945 (Den Toten zu Ehr. Den Lebenden zur Lehr)’. The names of 19 missing follow. Both the left boulder and right boulders carry names of 15 fallen along with their date of death. Those on the left were killed in 1941 or 1942 and those on the right were killed in 1943, 1944 or 1945.
