Dutch War Graves Municipal Cemetery Zelhem

On the Municipal Cemetery in Zelhem are buried:

Mayor Rijpstra. Johannes Rijpstra was arrested by the Germans for providing false papers to people in hiding. Whether this actually is true is unknown, but because of his mayoralty, he was convicted of that fact. He died on December 9th 1944 in Concentration Camp Neuengamme in Germany.

A street is named after Mayor Rijpstra in Zelhem.

Resistance Fighter Willem Middelkoop.
Willem was an official. He died at the age of 27 on 16-12-1944 in Meppen-Versen, a subcamp of Neuengamme.
