Grenade Impacts Battle of Aachen

In these places along the Worm valley you can find traces of the battles for Aachen.
After the 30th American Division crossed the Worm River between Rimburg and Marienberg on October 2, 1944 and established a bridgehead, they broke through the Siegfried Line after 5 days of heavy fighting.
The 30th Division changed the direction of the attack to the south and captured Alsdorf, after which the plan was to attack towards Würselen on the eastern side of the Worm Valley, effectively encircling Aachen.
At the same time, the Germans deployed the 116th Panzer and the 3rd Panzergrenadier divisions from the northeast towards Würselen. Fierce fighting took place around Bardenberg and part of the 119th regiment was cut off in North Würselen by German attacks on 9 October and the Americans succeeded in reaching North Würselen again.
