The fleet of Ouddorp came on 06-04-2005 in the news when on a fishing vessel from Ouddorp the Maarten Jacob, the Ouddorp 1 (OD-1) three crew members were killed by a bomb from World War II. The bomb had fallen into the nets and detonated aboard when emptying the nets.
A memorial plaque has also been placed at the monument in memory of Nellie Klink. She was seriously injured during the bombing on May 12, 1944 and died on March 23, 1946, at the age of 13.
