Commonwealth War Graves General Cemetery Gilzerbaan

During the period between 1940 and 1945 the perished allied military people have been buried on the Common Cemetery of Tilburg. After the war reburials took place on a large scale. In 1950, the Imperial War Graves Commission asked for permission to establish a permanent allocation of the remainder of the allied graves on the Common Cemetery. The municipal Court of Mayor and Alderman have provided the required space free of charge.

Today this war cemetery counts 76 graves of allied soldiers. The maintenance of this section of the cemetery is the responsibility of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission which is the international establishment that administers and maintains war graves all over the world.

On the Commonwealth field of honour at the Cemetery Gilzerbaan in Tilburg, are Polish and three Czechoslovak War Graves.
