Monument Hiding Address Farm Koeslag Laren

Monument Hiding Address Farm Koeslag Laren
This monument recalls the location of the farm of the Koeslag family.
In February 1943, the family started sheltering people in hiding. In and around the farm Koeslag (Koeslag) shelters had been made in ditches, in the hayloft,
in the woods and they were getting fuller and fuller. Often as many as 25 people sat at the table or the food was taken to the shelters.
At the beginning of 1944, they began to specialize in housing downed pilots and their crew members. They were brought in from a large part of the Netherlands and
were provided with civilian clothes and papers. In Zutphen they were put on a train and escorted to Nijmegen. There they were taken over by the local resistance who brought them to Echt-Roermond and further led across the border via Belgium and France out of the occupied area. At least 60 airmen have been brought back this way.
