This monument commemorates 16 WW1 and 5 WW2 local residents. The monument is situated in churchyard of St Mary Major. A meeting was held in the Parish Rooms in Feb 1919 where it was decided to erect a memorial and replace the church clock to commemorate peace and the great victory. Sufficient funds were eventually collected to build the monument and replace the clock, although it appears to have taken some time, leading to some of the relatives of those being commemorated to place a plaque in St Mary major church. Originally the monument was positioned closer to the main door of the church and was moved to its current position in the 1990s.
