The present Tavistock Guildhall Gateway Centre was formerly the town Police Station, Cells and Court house. During WW1 troops were billeted there prior to leaving for the western front. One such soldier scribed his name, birthplace and regiment in a cell door.
Pictures show the cell door, a close up of graffiti and a Centre display board describing the graffiti and what happened to Pte T Blewitt.
The former cells are in the building directly north east of the war memorial.
