Reconstruction Death Wire at the Achelse Kluis, near the monastery gate.
For the construction of the wire fence at the Achelse Kluis, the Kluis itself was required to pay the cost of the materials, while the German government took care of the construction and execution. Moreover, each priest or friar had to personally sign the agreement promising not to cross the barrier, not to smuggle any messages or objects over the wire and not even to pass on any verbal information to the wire.
At the back of the abbey is a wall full of bullet holes from a German attack during WW1.
