Anyone standing next to the 22-meter-high Belfort is on historic ground. Over 75 years ago on this swampy ground soldiers fought for the freedom of all of the Netherlands. This is still clearly visible in the six bunkers next to the tower, also called casemates, and part of the Peelraamstelling. Inside the tower are information boards that tell about the situation before and during World War II.
