Memorial For Julius Zerman(n) And Jean Briewski - Grenoble

As a student, Julius Zerman(n) was responsible for the Lyon region of the Union of Jewish Youth (UJJ) in the southern zone.
He was also in the resistance and was part of the FTP-MOI.
Jean Brievski or Briewski was the Grenoble official of the Union of Jews for Resistance and Mutual Aid (UJRE).
He was also part of the resistance and belonged to an FTP-MOI group.
On December 16, 1943, they went to Grenoble to take part in a meeting to be held in an apartment on the corner of Rue de Bonne and Place Victor Hugo.
The Gestapo, tipped off about the meeting, arrests Zerman and Briewski, along with Hersz Garbarz
During their transfer by car to Gestapo headquarters, one of the prisoners allegedly grabbed the policeman who was guarding them with his weapon. The driver of the vehicle allegedly then shot the attacker and then shot one of the other two inmates who attempted to escape.
The bodies of the two killed prisoners, Zerman and Briewski, were transported to Gestapo headquarters, where they were handed over to the French police. The identity documents, which turned out to be false, contained the names of Julien Samois and Jean Brievski.
The survivor, Hersz Garbarz, was deported to Auschwitz on 20 January 1944 with Convoy 66. He did not return.
Julien Zerman was recognized as having died for France and awarded the Croix de guerre and the Médaille de la Résistance.
