Memorial KZ Lenzing-Pettighofen

Text on the stone:
From November 3, 1944 to May 4, 1945, the "Subcamp Pettighofen of Mauthausen concentration camp" was located on this site. It housed 565 female prisoners.
To remember their suffering and the fate of all others.
The market town of Lenzing in 1992."

Next to the memorial stone of the KZ is another monument, text on the monument:
"Not forgotten - in particular are the five women who fell victim to a tragic train accident on their way from KZ Pettighofen to Zellwolle Lenzing in the early morning hours of 11-01-1945."

The Mauthausen death register for the Lenzing Pettighofen concentration camp records nine deaths: five women died in a railway accident which, if not intentional, was then due to gross negligence on the part of the guards. For the other four women, the cause of death was recorded as "circulatory failure", which usually indicates murder in camp files. However, former inmates of the camp failed to report any intentional killings.
On May 5, 1945, the camp was liberated by American troops.
