Monument Dirk Van Nimwegencentre

This plaque was placed for Dirk van Nimwegen. He was one of the initiators of the strike of 25 February 1941 organized by the illegal CPN. This strike was a protest against the persecution of the Jews by the occupying forces.

The text on the plaque is as follows:

'1904 DIRK VAN NIMWEGEN 1969 RESISTANCE MAN
ONE OF THE INITIATORS OF THE STRIKE ORGANIZED BY THE ILLEGAL CPN
OF FEBRUARY 25, 1941, AS PROTEST AGAINST THE PERSECUTION OF JEWS BY NAZI GERMANY.
DIRK VAN NIMWEGEN WORKED AT THE CITY CLEANING OFFICE ON THE BILDERDIJKADE.
HE MADE THE CALL ON THE NOORDERMARKET.
THE FEBRUARY STRIKE IS COMMEMORATED EVERY YEAR AT THE DOCK WORKER.'
