This plaque commemorates Johan Brouwer (Delfshaven, 31 May 1898 – Haarlem, 1 July 1943).
He was a Dutch hispanologist and author, active as a resistance fighter during World War II.
In Amsterdam, under the motto "Give Streets a Face", streets are provided with panels with the portrait of the namesake plus a short life course. In this way they want to give streets more personality. The initiator is Paul Fennis.
This is also the case in the Verzetsheldenbuurt in Slotermeer.
