As a sign of memory to the Croatian defenders who died during the 1992-1995 war, a monument was erected on September 13, 1995 in the center of the city. The Croatian Defense Council (HVO) and the Croatian Army (HV) liberated the royal city of Jajce after 1,049 days of occupation. Since then, September 13 has been celebrated as the day of the city and its liberation.
