Memorials Czechoslovak Legionnaires

These memorial plaques commemorate the Czechoslovak legionnaires who fought for Czechoslovak independence during the First World War. Czechoslovakia was then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

The first plaque (photo 2) commemorates the legionnaires who fell in the following battles:
* The Battle of Zborov
Former Czechoslovak prisoners of war fought against the Austro-Hungarian Army and broke through the lines on July 2, 1917, capturing many thousands of soldiers, who also came from Czechoslovakia and then joined them
* Dobrudz
This is an area on the border between Romania and Bulgaria where many Czechoslovak soldiers defected to the Serbs.
* Bachmac
Here the legionnaires fought against the Germans.
* Siberia
From the spring of 1918 to the autumn of 1920, the legionnaires fought against the Bolshevik forces and for a long time controlled the Trans-Siberian Railway.
* Doss Alto
Located near Lake Garda, the Legionnaires held out against the Austro-Hungarian troops on September 21, 1917.

On the plate it says:
"Here are stored fingers from the battlefields at Zborov, in Dobrudz, at Bachmač, in Siberia and on Doss' Alt"

The second plate (photo 3) commemorates the legionnaires who fought in diluent together with the French.

The plate contains the following text
"Under this plaque is preserved a finger from the battlefield of Verdun, dedicated to the message of the Municipality of Prague to the Municipality of Verdun on April 25, 1921. In memory of the joint struggle and victory for the freedom of the fatherland"
