Saturday 22 August 1914 and the days that followed
The early stages of the war were horrific. Population censuses from 1910 and 1920 show that Musson, Baranzy, Gennevaux and Wilancourt lost 140 inhabitants out of a population of 1.802 people.
On 22 August twelve civilians were murdered in the village. The church and 118 houses were set on fire. More than two hundred residents were taken to Baranzy, where they were gathered together with civilians from neighboring villages. Most, including 148 from Musson, were deported to Germany and many died in captivity. Later, another seven civilians were executed in Musson.
