Mussy-la-Ville 22 August 1914 and the days that followed
Situated on the edge of the battlefield, Mussy-la-Ville suffered infinitely as a result of the unjustified accusations levelled by the Germans at the civilian population. At the same time, German and French battalions were fighting south of the village.
Under the pretext of being fired upon by the inhabitants of the village, the German troops committed terrible crimes against the villagers on 22 August 1914. 55 houses were burned down, eight residents were deported to Germany, one of whom died in captivity. Thirteen civilians were murdered and on 25 August the priest ALEXANDRE was executed.
