The memorial commemorates that on December 10th 1943 HQ Company the 10th Battalion Parachute Regiment took residence in Burrough Court hunting Lodge alond with D Company and part of Support Company. Burrough Court Estate burned down in the early hours of February 1st 1944 after some paratroopers attempted to blow the door off Viscount Furness' wine cellars.
