Former Barracks Gardes Frontière

This is the former military base, barracks, of the Gardes Frontière at the town of Visé.

These barracks are in the center of the town of Visé. The base was left abolished. Since 1982 it provides accomodation for a primary school named after Lieutenant Jacquemin who was k.i.a. on May 24th 1940. On the base were stationed the so called 'cyclistes frontières' (border cyclists). They would use bicycles to gard parameters and move between the bunkers in the sector of Visé and nearby secors.

At the base there were 4 bunkers of who today 2 still exist.

At the raods near the barracks there are several so called 'barrage du câbles' (roadblocks). Both front and backside of the barracks would have these roadblocks. One of the poles on the backside is coded Vi 6 I (number 11). This meant that the roadblock was part of bunker Vi 6. Today the pole is located at a private plot. The owner painted it white so it stands out when cars are parked. For a more detailed explanition of thes poles see roadblocks. The pole is well anchored in the ground (because the force it would have to withstand), the owner chose not to remove the pole while building his wall, he just worked arround it.

Other barracks of 'cyclistes frontières' were located at Hombourg and Henri-Chapelle.
